Winter Skin SOS

It’s dull, it’s grey, it’s depressing…. and that’s just the condition of my skin. If you’re suffering like me and are worrying about your Big Day face, here’s how to basically look like winter isn’t happening!

You now: dull, grey skin (no matter how much blusher you’re packing on!)
The cure: Whip out the exfoliator and buff off all the dead skin cells that are camping out on your complexion. Go easy as any dryness, tautness, red patches or itchiness could mean that you’re an over-enthusiastic scrubber using gentle exfoliators which won’t strip your skin. I’m nearing the end of my bottle of Bliss Fabulous Foaming Face Wash, £18.50. Just the tiniest blob of grainy blue brightens up my skin a treat.

You now: flaky lips and corner cracks
The cure: An anxious pre-wedding lip nibble isn’t a massive surprise. But, and this bit is gross, as you rip off the rough flakes, your saliva basically digests your lip cells so they can’t regenerate. Oh, and you’re also leaving your lips open to infection…  How’s that first kiss gonna feel? As for corner cracks, they’re apparently a sign that you need to up your intake of Vitamin A (found in carrots and green veg) and D (found in fish oils and eggs.) Treat yourself to a lip balm (as well as a plate of salmon with a side of spinach.) An oldie but still a goodie: what’s not to love about Carmex, £2.69

You now: sunburn (without sun!)
The cure: So there’s been no glimmer of sunshine since August but you still got sunburnt on your weekend mooch with your pooch and your hub-to-be. Damaging UVA rays (the wrinkle inducing ones) are strong all year round and can even penetrate clouds so using a protective day cream is essential. I’m a sucker for Murad Perfecting Day Cream SPF30, £42. The texture is a dream and it’s spiked with a cocktail of sk-ingredients to plump, de-crinkle and reduce redness, talking of which….

You now: Farmer-red cheeks
The cure: Seasonal eczema, rough skin and hypersensitivity screams Winter Skin SOS. A super-smoothing vitamin mask will reduce the redness and pump in some much-needed moisture. Skincare disguised as make-up is the way forward to cover any persistent flush. Clinique have got you covered (pun intended) with both their Redness Solutions Daily Relief Cream, £40 and Redness Solutions Makeup, £25 (it’s like a BB cream.) A beauty ed pal of mine swears by this power coupling (and her skin always looks immaculate.)

You now: Dry eyes
The cure: It’s a sign of dehydration so keep knocking back the H2O and use an eye cream twice a day. I’ve taken to carrying around a bottle of Optrex ActiMist 2in1 Eye Spray for Dry + Irritated Eyes too. It feels beyond refreshing to spritz, especially when my eyes are starting to suffer.

So how do you cope with winter-ravaged skin? Fellow B2Bs are after recommendations for good winter moisturisers so please share your favourites below.

BTW,  I’ve written posts on Winter Hair SOS and Winter Body SOS too. Please take a look!

  • Hmm it looks like your site ate my first comment (it was extremely long)
so I guess I’ll just sum it up what I submitted and say, I’m thoroughly
enjoying your blog. I too am an aspiring blog writer but I’m still new to
the whole thing. Do you have any tips and hints for inexperienced blog writers?
    I’d genuinely appreciate it.

P.S. If you have a minute, would love your feedback on my new
re-design. You can find it by searching for «royal cbd» — no sweat if
    you can’t.

    Keep up the good work!

  • I love how cold dark evenings give you the chance to stay home, keep warm and get pampered. I’ve luterally spent a fortune on face masks as they all sound so great. Tonight’s the chance of a L’Oréal charcoal one!

  • Really love the hair crown thingy. Wonder if it stays in place or feels weird across your forehead. My finance’s got long hair (which i’m hoping he’ll tie back.) Am suddenly thinking we may become entwined….. Sorry, I’ve spent ages on your website today. I’m really loving it, though keep leaving comments which are getting madder by the minute!!!!!!!!!! x

  • I definitely agree that dry eyes are a result of tiredness. Add baggy, no sparkle and more lines than on a whiteboard!
