"What I wore"

As a bride-to-be, I’ve been prodding everyone for beauty advice: what works and more importantly, what doesn’t (like an updo that makes you taller than your groom - awkward), how to ensure your make-up will last from the “I Do” to the dancefloor and whether I should go Rapunzel for the reception (ie. let down my hair.) This section of the website is for beautiful brides - pros, pals and everyone in-between - who are happy to share their big day beauty secrets. Today, meet...

Ruth married Ben In Farringford on the Isle of Wight

“Good hair and make-up artists are really hard to find on the Isle of Wight. In hindsight,
I wished I’d just asked my friends to do it all. At my trial I was given green
witch-y eyes to match the bridesmaids’ dresses. I decided straight away to stick to
traditional smoky browns for the big day! I applied my own base and kept my favourite
lipstick – Bobbi Brown Lipcolour in Brownie – handy for top-ups during the
day. I wore my hair in a mussed up low bun accessorised with a crystal slide which
was made specially for me by my bridesmaid’s mum. As the day wore on and some
strands fell free I just left them.”

  • I feel Ruth’s pain. I’m getting married on the I of W this summer and have my fingers tightly crossed for good makeup. I don’t live there so can’t have a trial. I’d love any recommendations!
