10 ways to wear flowers in your wedding hair

Here’s the next of my series of stunning big day do’s compiled in cahoots with El Style, an amazing hair & make-up agency based in Pasadena. Today it’s all about flowers.

So many brides opt for flowers over veils these days. I reckon it’s because there are loads of ways to wear them (tucked behind one ear, as a crown or woven into plaits etc.) Whilst I’m a big fan of fresh flowers, if you’ve set your heart on something that isn’t in season, you’ll easily find a realistic looking fake. At least you don’t need to worry about it wilting during the day… Anyway, take a look at these bloomin’ beauties…

For advice on wearing flowers in your wedding hair, check this post I wrote some time ago, along with some really cute suggestions if you’re faking it. If your heart is set on fresh flowers, remember to keep them away from hairspray otherwise they’re on a one-way-trip to wilt city. For more tips, read an interview I did with florist Amie Bone here

Anyway, hope there are some styles here which may make your trial shortlist. I’d love to know which ones are your favourites.

  • I love the idea of wearing fresh flowers but am worried that they won’t stay in place. I wore a flower crown to my festival hen do and absolutely loved it. I think to wear a crown again would be too samey so something like your pictures showing flowers sitting on top of a bun or knot would be really pretty x

  • These are sooooooooo pretty. I’m definitely wearing flowers in my hair. I should mention that I’m the bridesmaid (and the bride doesn’t know yet!) xx

  • I had my hair trial a week ago. My stylist used quite a lot of hair extensions in my hair as I wanted a chunky plait similar to the one above. Once they’re put in, they feel really secure. To then attach flowers on wire, which i’m having woven through, also felt like they wouldn’t move. But when you know how you’re going to wear flowers (behind ear or like me woven through) choose flowers that won’t fall apart. I have to go for baby’s breath as there’s less chance of me making rose petal confetti too soon. Love your website xx

  • No4. Gotta be every girl’s dream bridal look. I could get the peony but am lacking on the face and hair front.

  • I love flowers. I worry that diamanté would look a bit Meghan Markle ie. royal wedding. Flowers are a softer alternative x

  • Flowers look so soft and romantic. I much prefer them to diamante tiaras or combs. They’re cheaper than veils too. I wear flowers a lot, they really lift your outfit. I’m definitely going down the flower route for my wedding. My dress has crocheted flowers all over the bodice so to echo white flowers in my hair I hope will look beautiful. Stephanie

  • I love the idea of wearing fresh flowers but was worrying about wilting so thanks for the tips about no spraying. I think that flowers can make the simplest style look really pretty. even if it’s left straight with a flower crown or a flower behind one ear. I’m def doing that for the bridesmaids. I didn’t fancy having them hold posies anyway. thanks for the inspiration! 🙂
